Overview

The Chocó-ecoregion in northwest Ecuador is one of the most diverse and most endangered habitats in the world. Because of its biodiversity is consider one of the 10 most important biodiversity hotspots in the world. The cloud forest seems like a mossy jungle with tall trees decorated with orchids, mosses, bromeliads, and other epiphytes.

Itinerary

Leave from Quito early in the morning to the North West heading the protected Cloud Forest region known as Choco; one of the richest ecosystems in Ecuador, Colombia and part of Central America.

Our first stop will be in the orchid private reserve Pahuma. In this area where you can easily spot more than 10 species of wild orchids, bromelias, heliconias and anthuriums in a guided hike in primary forests where you will be able to see the wildlife of this beautiful tropical area. Continue our tour to Mindo, where we will visit a chocolate factory. Here you will see first-hand the artisan way to produce chocolate and of course have the chance to taste these food of the gods. After this visit we continue to the nicest butterflies farm to learn about the all metamorphosis process. In this place, we will have lunch surrounded by hummingbirds and butterflies. Return to Quito in the late afternoon.
