Baltra is where the main airport of the archipelago is located along with a dock for ferries and other boats that transport tourists to Santa Cruz island. Baltra is the point of arrival for most travelers to the Galapagos. While it does not have many touristic sites, it is a great place to shopp for souvenirs and grab something to eat. Baltra is arid and its vegetation is dominated by prickly Pear Cactus and Palo Santo trees, making it a spot where large numbers of birds can be observed. In the canal of clear water that separates Baltra and Santa Cruz, many sea lions can be seen.
